The material bog oak is a light, subfossil wood, which has surprisingly good smoking qualities. Today bog oak is only found by chance, because nobody knows where exactly centuries ago oak trees were stored in bogs or gravel layers of old river beds. Over a long period of time, the wood reaches an almost fossilized state. It becomes black and porous. The light material and the porosity guarantee an absorbent pipe that stands for cool and dry smoking pleasure. At Rattray's Bog Oak, the bog oak is at least 2000 years old.
